Social Services

Mission Statement

"Let us put our minds and hearts together and see what kind of life we can build for our children." -Sitting Bull-

It will be with this motto in mind that we will develop our individual plans for the families that require or ask for our services. Every family is unique although their situations may be similar. Even though every family has its own dynamics, they all require time and resources to assist them through all of the issues or barriers they may have. Establishing a consistent network within the tribal structure is how we will accomplish this.

It is the mission of all staff to ensure that one child at a time receive an education, overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, meet the needs of families, provide holistic approach to family development, fine tune the processes, provide a network to efficient services to clients, journey to success networking, planning, and self-sufficiency, and generation of funds to maintain a high level of services.

Values

As a social services department, we will have the following values to interact with one another and the families we work with. It will be with trust, honesty, compassion, respect, dignity, cooperation, humility, patience, humor, cooperation, commitment, and sharing, to be good listeners so that we may hear what all of the services can be provided to strengthen families.

As the departments that make up the Social Services Division for the Nisqually Tribe we have made a commitment to working in harmony for the good of the whole, child, family, and community. We are Indian Child Welfare, Youth Services, Head start, Daycare, Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, TANF, and Administrative Support.

Goals

Each department was asked to list goals that were immediate and long term. As we go through this strategic planning process to develop a 10 year plan we ask you to keep in mind that we can only accomplish these goals with the cooperation of the Tribe as a whole, with funding, and dedication from staff. These Department Goals are listed on each programs webpage in the Social Services Main page.

In closing, it is paramount that we complete and begin the strategic process as efficiently and in a timely manner to be successful with our responsibilities. As service providers who deal with crisis, abuse of all kinds, stresses, and general goals we have for our departments, we are a team of professionals that are here to serve the people. Our gratification comes from within and even though at times we may not see any immediate evidence of our work, it will be with time that we will be rewarded. Keep up the chins and remember the pats on the back to our fellow team members and most importantly ourselves.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE OF THE GRASS COUNTRY, THE PEOPLE OF THE RIVER
